Are there any requirements for membership?
Yes, there are. Active members are held to a 2.75 GPA and members of executive council are held to a 3.0. While failure to meet or exceed these requirements will not cause membership to be denied, consequences are administered to encourage a strong academic mindset.

Why choose Tau Kappa Epsilon?
The strength of Tau Kappa Epsilon is its brotherhood. TKE men are committed to the principles of scholarship, community service, leadership, friendship, and physical well-being. As a TKE, you will pursue a good education, volunteer in your community, participate in social activities with other fraternities or student groups on campus, serve in a leadership role in your chapter, challenge other fraternities to athletic contests-- and more.

Is being in a fraternity all about drinking and sorority girls?
No. Fraternities across campus are involved in many other positive activities to help benefit the campus and the community. Tau Kappa Epsilon contributes to the Alzheimer's Foundation (TKE's national philanthropy), and to local charities such as the Ronald McDonald House. Though being in a fraternity does provide an avenue for a successful social life, there is much more to being Greek than partying.

Does TKE participate in any philanthropic or charitable activities?
Yes. Along with the national TKE philanthropy, the Alzheimer's Association, the local Madison TKEs work with charities around the community. The Ronald McDonald House has been the beneficiary of much of our recent volunteer work. Tau Kappa Epsilon also participates in Humorology, an academic-year long project that pairs fraternities and sororities together. The project consists of making a short comedic Broadway-style musical in which six pairings perform in the final show in April upon successful auditions in December. Humorology raises money for the Chris Farley Foundation and Camp Heartland, and is the biggest Greek philanthropy on campus.

Do I need to move into the fraternity house to be a member?
No, you do not need to move into the fraternity house immediately after joining. We do require that you live at least one full year at the TKE chapter house at one point during your time at the University of Wisconsin. Typically, most members live their sophomore and junior years at the TKE house. Many parents are concerned with the thought of their son living in a fraternity house. Rest assured, the house at 216 is in no way like Animal House. With more members living in the house, healthier lifestyles are encouraged. There are more options for making dinner, going to the library, working out, and generally being more productive. Many members will say that living in the house at 216 has been the best living experience possible, especially with the recent renovations.
