Origins

Lambda chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded at the University of Wisconsin – Madison on December 15, 1917 – the same year that Camp Randall Stadium was built. The current TKE house has been the location of Lambda chapter since the year 1968. It is located in the heart of UW’s Greek community and is one of the largest fraternity houses on Langdon, featuring a 300 square-foot roof overlooking Lake Mendota and the Wisconsin State Capitol building. The house also features many large rooms for individual TKE members.

Who are the TKEs?

The TKEs (pronounced "Teaks", or T-K-E) are students at the University of Wisconsin - Madison who chose to become part of a fraternity that would enrich their college career. As they live the exciting life of fraternity men, the TKEs continually strive to be leaders, positive role models, athletes, and volunteers in both college and beyond. Most of the TKEs are double majors, ranging from Engineering to Legal Studies and numerous others. The TKEs also come from all over Wisconsin, as well as cities in Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Maine, Virginia, California, Ohio, Michigan, Connecticut and many cities in between.

Scholarship

Academics remain the number one priority for the TKEs as they pursue a variety of majors and concentrations at the University of Wisconsin. Since TKE arrived at the Madison campus, more than one-thousand students have joined Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity with the intention of making the most of their college career. Each year, there are thousands of dollars in scholarships awarded to TKE members who exhibit outstanding academic success and leadership achievement.

The Triangle Achievement Award is another scholarship TKE offers to Freshman and Sophomore students at UW every year. TKE also incorporates a Membership Development program which functions as a means of getting campus, community, and alumni mentoring. TKE also has a highly involved alumni board.

Involvement on Campus

The TKEs continually remain an active force within the Greek community. Each year, they volunteer at local charities, participate in multiple philanthropies, and take part in numerous UW activities. These include Homecoming, Greek Week, Trick-or-Treat with the Greeks, as well as Humorology, one of UW’s biggest philanthropies. TKE also participates in several sports at UW, boasting championships in the Softball on Ice tournament, Dodgeball for Wishes, and intramural Ultimate Frisbee.

Leadership

Leadership development is always important to the members of TKE. While in TKE, there are numerous leadership opportunities available. In additional to the eight executive council positions, there are many chairmen who help lead different committees on projects within TKE such as Rush, Philanthropy, Homecoming, Scholarship, Greek Week, and Athletics. Several TKE members have become elected to leadership positions on campus including Greek Judicial Board Chief Justice, All-Greek Council President, All-Greek Council Treasurer, Humorology Executive Board, Intra-fraternal Council VP-Recruitment , Sports Editor for the UW’s Daily Cardinal, Homecoming Court, and plenty of others. Many of the TKEs hold jobs in the Madison community as well.

Social Activities

Since TKE is a social fraternity, they can also be seen dressed in Badger red and rallying-up with friends from other fraternities and sororities on their lawn before UW football games. They also go on team-building retreats, brotherhood road trips, co-affiliations with Sororities, and host both a formal and semi-formal each year. As a member of TKE, one will gain experiences and skills that will assist them throughout their undergraduate careers and beyond.
